Springfield, MO – A Freeze Watch remains in effect for a large portion of Missouri and southeast Kansas, as cold air settles into the region late Saturday night through Sunday morning, November 2, according to the National Weather Service offices in Springfield and St. Louis.
The watch includes Springfield, Joplin, Jefferson City, Rolla, and Farmington, as well as Fort Scott, Pittsburg, and Nevada in southeast Kansas. Temperatures are expected to fall to around 30 degrees, bringing the first widespread freeze of the season to many areas.
Forecasters warn that sub-freezing temperatures could kill crops, harm sensitive vegetation, and damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Residents are urged to cover outdoor plants, drain sprinkler systems, and wrap exposed pipes before Saturday evening.
The cold spell follows a brief frost advisory Friday morning and marks a decisive shift toward November’s colder pattern. Temperatures should rebound slightly Sunday afternoon, but additional frost and freeze alerts are possible early next week.
