Baltimore, Maryland – Snow could begin falling across central and northern Maryland by Sunday afternoon, setting up hazardous travel before the Monday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, a Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Sunday afternoon through Monday morning for a broad stretch of Maryland and parts of northern Virginia. Forecasters say 5 inches or more of snow are possible, with wind gusts reaching 35 mph that may blow snow across roadways and reduce visibility overnight.

The watch includes Frederick, Carroll and northern Baltimore counties, along with Cecil, Harford and Howard counties. Southern Baltimore, Anne Arundel, Calvert and St. Mary’s counties are also included, as well as western Loudoun County in Virginia. Areas along the I-95 corridor, I-70 and I-83 could see snow-covered lanes if heavier bands develop Sunday night.

Accumulating snow may intensify after sunset Sunday and continue into early Monday, increasing the risk of slippery secondary roads and delayed school or work schedules.

Residents should prepare now by reviewing travel plans, checking tire tread and monitoring forecast updates. Watches may be upgraded to warnings if confidence grows in higher snowfall totals or stronger wind impacts.
