Frederick, MD – Residents across Frederick County should prepare for accumulating snow late Saturday night as a winter weather system moves into central Maryland, bringing slick roads and possible travel disruptions through early Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, winter weather advisories have been expanded to include Frederick County as snow develops across the region. Forecasters say precipitation will begin in the mountains earlier Saturday afternoon before spreading eastward into Frederick County between 9 p.m. and midnight.

Once snow begins, temperatures are expected to remain cold enough for steady accumulation overnight. Current projections call for 1 to 3 inches of snow in Frederick County, with locally higher amounts possible on elevated surfaces. Areas farther west, including the higher elevations near Garrett County, are under a winter storm warning where heavier snow totals are expected.

Road conditions are expected to deteriorate overnight as snow-covered pavement and reduced visibility develop. Untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses may become slick, particularly during the late-night and early-morning hours Sunday. Drivers are urged to slow down and allow extra travel time.

Snow is expected to taper off by Sunday morning, but lingering slick spots could remain through the early afternoon. The advisory remains in effect through Sunday afternoon as crews continue to monitor road conditions.

The storm system is part of a broader winter weather event impacting northern Maryland, eastern West Virginia, northern Virginia, and the Washington metropolitan area. Officials recommend checking local forecasts and road conditions before heading out.
