Authorities said the deputy observed the vehicle traveling on Martinsburg Pike before it allegedly began driving erratically and entered the northbound ramp to Interstate 81.
Officials say the driver allegedly accelerated at a high rate of speed, exceeding 120 mph, while ignoring emergency lights and sirens. Deputies reportedly initiated a pursuit as the vehicle continued northbound. Near Exit 321, the Audi allegedly veered off the roadway, struck a guardrail, and crashed down an embankment near Hopewell Road.
Responding deputies located the driver, who had allegedly been ejected from the vehicle and suffered severe injuries. Authorities said the vehicle caught fire shortly after the crash, prompting a response from fire and EMS crews.
The driver was identified as 35-year-old Kevin Patrick Sullivan of Pennsylvania, who was also allegedly connected to the earlier domestic assault investigation in Winchester. Sullivan was transported to Winchester Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and later died, officials confirmed.
