Franklin County deputies recovered more than $26,000 in cash Thursday during a traffic stop that also led to the arrest of two people on felony drug charges.
According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began July 24 when a deputy observed individuals “hastily” loading items into the trunk of a vehicle at the New Rome Motel. The vehicle was later pulled over for expired tags.
Deputies said the driver stopped at the Marathon gas station on West Broad Street at Evergreen Terrace, where a K9 unit was called to the scene. K9 Enzo allegedly alerted to several areas of the vehicle, prompting a search. Inside, deputies reportedly found bundles of cash totaling more than $26,000, along with approximately 48 grams of suspected cocaine and 477 grams of marijuana.
The Franklin County Special Investigations Unit assisted with processing the evidence. Deputies said the cash was bundled separately from the drugs, suggesting it may have been connected to suspected narcotics activity.
Two suspects, identified as Tatynania McGinnis and Brindara Allen-Marshall, were taken into custody and charged with first-degree felony possession of drugs. Investigators said the case remains open and more charges may follow.
