Columbus, OH – A nearly yearlong homicide investigation in Franklin County resulted in an arrest this morning, after deputies located a murder suspect at a home in Delaware County. The case stems from a December 2024 shooting that left 38-year-old Jack Hamilton dead in Madison Township.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team and county SWAT deputies arrested 25-year-old Austin Tyler Hageman, who now faces multiple felony charges. A Franklin County Grand Jury indicted Hageman on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, on charges including murder, felonious assault, discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises, and improper handling of a firearm.

Deputies said the case began on December 19, 2024, when Madison Township Police and Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting near the 3000 block of Noe Bixby Road. Investigators determined that Hageman allegedly went to Hamilton’s residence to retrieve auto parts he believed Hamilton owed him. The two men, who were acquaintances, became involved in an argument that escalated quickly.

According to investigators, Hamilton allegedly jumped onto the running board of Hageman’s vehicle and struck him as Hageman attempted to leave. While the vehicle backed out of the driveway, Hamilton reportedly remained on the running board. Deputies say Hageman then allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired, striking Hamilton in the chest.

Hamilton was transported to a Columbus hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead upon arrival.

After a lengthy investigation, the sheriff’s office forwarded the case to the Franklin County Prosecutor for review. The Grand Jury indictment followed this week, leading to the arrest. Hageman is being held in the Franklin County Jail pending additional proceedings. No further details have been released.
