Columbus, OH – A fatal early morning crash in Jefferson Township claimed one life Thursday, disrupting traffic and knocking out power at a busy Franklin County intersection.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 5:51 a.m. Thursday, April 23, at the intersection of Havens Corners Road and North Waggoner Road. Deputies say a black 2015 Acura TLX was traveling eastbound on Havens Corners Road when a black 2015 Honda Pilot, heading northbound on North Waggoner Road, entered the intersection and struck the Acura.

The impact sent both vehicles off the northwest side of the intersection. Investigators say the Acura then struck a power pole, snapping it. The fallen pole landed on the Honda along with live power lines, prompting a response from American Electric Power crews to shut off electricity in the area.

Emergency responders from the sheriff’s office, along with Jefferson Township fire and medics, arrived shortly after the crash. The driver of the Acura, who was the sole occupant, was transported to Mount Carmel East Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

The driver of the Honda, also the only occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:55 a.m., according to medics.

Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased, pending notification of family. The intersection was closed for several hours as crews cleared the scene and investigators documented evidence.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the cause of the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Crash Investigation Unit at 614-525-6113.
