Franklin County, OH – A man was arrested late Friday night after allegedly speeding through a DUI checkpoint on South High Street at Dolby Drive, narrowly missing several deputies, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

Body camera footage reportedly shows how close the suspect, identified as Jeffrey Rayburn, came to hitting deputies who were setting up the checkpoint before striking several cones and a stationary light. Authorities said Rayburn then fled the scene, dragging one of the cones under his vehicle until he crashed into another car on U.S. 23 near I-270.

According to officials, no one was injured in the crash. Rayburn allegedly attempted to run from the scene but was located and arrested with assistance from the Columbus Division of Police helicopter unit.

Rayburn faces multiple charges, including operating a vehicle while impaired (OVI), failure to comply, and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

“This could have easily had deputies severely injured or killed because of the actions of this driver,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Authorities say the incident underscores the importance of DUI checkpoints in Franklin County, aimed at removing impaired drivers from the road and encouraging responsible decisions before getting behind the wheel.
