Franklin County, MO – The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is stepping up patrols next week as part of School Safety Week and a MoDOT School Bus Stop Arm Enforcement campaign running from October 20 through October 24, 2025.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies will conduct high-visibility enforcement across the county, focusing on drivers who fail to stop for school buses displaying flashing red lights and extended stop arms. Patrol units may follow buses along their routes to monitor compliance and identify problem areas.

Officials said the initiative is designed to protect students as they board or exit buses and to remind motorists of Missouri’s laws requiring drivers to stop in both directions for school buses when children are present.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has been coordinating with local schools and transportation departments to determine key enforcement zones. Drivers are urged to stay alert, slow down near bus stops, and never attempt to pass a bus when its stop arm is extended.

Authorities emphasize that violations can lead to hefty fines and license points, along with increased safety risks to children.
