Frankfort, KY – A high-speed pursuit involving a homicide suspect from Georgia ended in a deadly crash Saturday morning in Franklin County, according to Kentucky State Police (KSP).
KSP reported that around 9:16 a.m. Saturday, January 10, troopers from Post 7 in Richmond attempted to stop a gray Honda Civic after assisting Berea Police in locating a suspect wanted in Georgia. The driver allegedly refused to yield, leading police on a chase northbound on I-75 and westbound on I-64, reaching speeds over 100 mph.
According to KSP, Post 12 troopers in Frankfort joined the pursuit as officers deployed tire deflation devices. The suspect’s vehicle crossed the median near the 50-mile marker on I-64, colliding head-on with a commercial truck traveling eastbound.
The truck driver, Marcus Boughten, 50, of Waco, TX, was not injured. The suspect driving the Honda Civic was pronounced dead at the scene by the Franklin County Coroner. Due to the severity of the crash, the suspect has not been positively identified.
KSP’s Critical Incident Response Team has taken over the investigation. Multiple agencies assisted, including the Berea Police Department, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Lexington Police, Scott County Sheriff’s Office, and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing.
