Frankfort, IL – With holiday shopping in full swing, the Frankfort Police Department has released critical online safety tips to protect residents from scams.
According to the department’s Facebook post, fraudulent emails and fake websites often surge during the holidays, targeting unwary shoppers. Officials urge residents to avoid clicking on links from unknown senders and instead opt for credit or gift cards over debit cards for online purchases.
Shoppers are encouraged to verify that websites are secure by looking for the padlock icon next to the web address. Providing only necessary information, such as name, address, and payment method, can also minimize risk.
Police recommend using private Wi-Fi instead of public networks and suggest having packages delivered to secure locations, such as Amazon lockers, if no one is home.
