Frankfort, IL – Emergency crews rushed to the scene of a serious crash Friday morning after a heavy telehandler rolled into a ravine behind the CVS located at 11200 Lincoln Highway, trapping the operator inside the cab.
According to the Frankfort Fire Protection District, the incident occurred around 9:56 a.m. when the telehandler rolled off a flatbed truck while being loaded, coming to rest on its side in a ditch. Firefighters from multiple units — including Engine 75, Truck 71, Pumper/Tender 73, and Ambulance 75 — worked together to stabilize the heavy machinery and safely extricate the trapped operator.
Paramedics treated the operator at the scene before transporting them by Ambulance 75 to Silver Cross Hospital for further evaluation. Crews from the New Lenox Fire Protection District and Mokena Police Department also assisted, along with Wes Kochel Towing, which helped remove the telehandler from the ravine.
The fire district reminded contractors and operators to double-check load security and stabilization when handling heavy equipment, especially during the busy fall construction season.
