Fourth of July Week: Oregon Coast Stays Mild While Interior Valleys Sizzle

Portland, Oregon – Northwest Oregon is heading into the Fourth of July week under a blanket of early summer heat, with temperatures soaring into the 90s across interior valleys on Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, a hot start is expected across the region June 30, especially in cities like Portland, Salem, and Eugene, where highs could hit the low 90s. The heat will moderate beginning Tuesday, with temperatures trending downward through Friday.

Coastal communities from Astoria to Newport will stay much cooler, with highs holding in the mid 60s through the week. Expect persistent morning marine clouds and mild afternoons along Highway 101.

In the Cascades, temperatures will climb into the 80s on Monday before gradually cooling into the low 70s by midweek. There’s also a 15–25% chance of thunderstorms in the Lane County Cascades through Tuesday—campers and hikers should monitor conditions and be weather-aware.

The warm start will give way to more comfortable conditions heading into the holiday. Skies are expected to remain mostly clear with no widespread rain in sight.
