Chicago, Illinois – As Illinois celebrates Independence Day under sunshine and summer heat, conditions are expected to turn noticeably more humid by Thursday evening, making for a sticky and potentially stormy end to the holiday.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, dew points will climb Thursday night, especially inland from the lake, creating muggy conditions just as crowds gather for fireworks. While most of the state will remain dry, an isolated thunderstorm or two is possible north of I-80 between 8 p.m. and midnight, with gusty winds as the primary threat.

Evening temperatures will hover in the upper 70s across much of the state, with humid air making it feel several degrees warmer. Lakefront areas from Evanston to Gary may feel slightly cooler due to a lake breeze, but moisture will still hang heavy in the air.

Residents planning outdoor events should stay hydrated and monitor conditions, especially in northern counties. If thunder roars, move celebrations indoors until storms pass.

Humidity is expected to remain high through Friday and Saturday, with more widespread storm chances arriving late Saturday into Sunday.
