Houston, Texas – Sweltering heat will grip the Houston area through Independence Day, with heat index values climbing as high as 102°F by Wednesday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Houston, today’s high will reach 95°F, with mostly sunny skies and calm southeast winds around 5 mph. A slight chance of thunderstorms returns Thursday afternoon, with a 20% chance of showers after 1 p.m., especially in areas west of I-45.
While no heat advisories are currently in effect, residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours, and ensure pets have access to shade and water. South winds will continue at 5 to 10 mph through the week, offering little relief from the humidity.
On Independence Day, highs will hover near 93°F under mostly sunny skies — favorable for fireworks but still dangerously hot during the day. Overnight lows throughout the week will remain in the upper 70s.
A stronger chance of storms returns by Sunday and Monday, with a 40% chance of afternoon showers and possible lightning.
