Shreveport, La. – Extreme heat is gripping the Four States Region today, with heat indices expected to reach a dangerous 109 degrees by late afternoon. Middle to upper 90s, paired with high humidity, will push conditions into the Heat Advisory range until 8 p.m., covering all of Northeast Texas, Southeast Oklahoma, Southwest Arkansas, and Northern Louisiana.
According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, residents should avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest hours, stay hydrated, and wear light, loose-fitting clothing. Those without reliable air conditioning are urged to seek cooling centers or shaded areas, as fans alone may not provide adequate relief in extreme humidity.
Cities including Shreveport, Texarkana, Hope, El Dorado, and Natchitoches will feel the brunt of the oppressive heat, though isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible across portions of Arkansas and Louisiana this afternoon, offering some localized relief. Far Northeast Texas and Southeast Oklahoma are less likely to see rain.
The heat danger remains high through the evening, with conditions expected to persist into the upcoming days. Additional advisories are possible if temperatures and humidity stay elevated.
