Shreveport, LA –

Triple-digit heat index values are baking much of the ArkLaTex region today as a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday, with highs surging into the mid to upper 90s.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, heat index readings will range from 105 to 109 degrees across southern Arkansas, northern Louisiana, eastern Texas, and southeastern Oklahoma. Cities like Shreveport, Monroe, Texarkana, and Natchitoches are all under the advisory. Winds will remain light from the south-southeast at 3–7 mph.

Shreveport and Homer are both expected to hit 94°, while Jonesboro and Natchitoches could reach 95°. Texarkana leads with a peak of 97°. Rain chances remain scattered and low across most of the area—only 21% in Tyler and Rusk, with slightly higher chances (41%) in Jena, Hemphill, and Natchitoches this afternoon.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activity, and use air conditioning if available, as fans alone may not be sufficient. Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothes and check on vulnerable individuals.

This extreme heat pattern is typical for late June in the region, but the humidity is pushing heat stress to dangerous levels. Additional advisories may be issued if conditions persist.
