Four Children Killed in Vehicle Crash at Illinois After-School Camp

Chatham, IL – Four children were killed Monday afternoon when a vehicle crashed into an after-school camp in Chatham, according to officials.

The Illinois State Police (ISP) said officers responded around 3:20 p.m. to the YNOT After School Camp at 301 Breckenridge Road after a vehicle drove into the east side of the building. According to authorities, the vehicle struck multiple children outside before continuing through the facility and hitting more individuals inside.

Police confirmed four fatalities involving victims believed to be between the ages of 4 and 18. Three of the children were struck outside the building, while one was hit inside. Several other individuals suffered injuries and were transported to local hospitals, with one person airlifted by helicopter, ISP reported.

The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was not injured but was transported to a hospital for evaluation, authorities said. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Traffic on Walnut Street between Park Street and Gordon Drive will remain closed until further notice, officials stated. ISP indicated additional updates would be released as soon as they become available.
