Fort Worth, TX – Thunderstorms will continue across North and Central Texas through tonight, bringing periods of heavy rainfall and an ongoing threat for flash flooding. The National Weather Service Fort Worth office says the heaviest activity will shift east this evening, while additional scattered storms develop behind it in Central Texas overnight.

A Flood Watch remains in effect through 6 a.m. Friday for a large portion of the region, including the DFW Metroplex, Waco, Killeen, Stephenville, Canton, Sherman, Paris, Graham, and Palestine.

Forecasters report that 1 to 2 inches of rain is expected for many locations, with isolated totals up to 3 inches, especially in areas that experience repeated rounds of thunderstorms. Soil conditions are already saturated in several communities, increasing the potential for rapid runoff and localized flash flooding.

In addition to flooding concerns, an isolated severe threat remains in place through the evening, with storms capable of producing damaging winds or hail. The main round of storms is expected to exit east late tonight, though scattered heavy downpours may persist in Central Texas through the early morning hours.

Residents are urged to use extra caution at low-water crossings and avoid driving across flooded roads. NWS Fort Worth reminds the public: “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”
