Fort Worth, Texas – Clouds will thicken across North Texas today as a weak weather system moves overhead, bringing a chance for spotty light rain south of Fort Worth before a breezy cold front sweeps through Wednesday with falling temperatures and dry air.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, a slow-moving upper-level disturbance is spreading Pacific moisture across Central Texas today. While most of the Dallas–Fort Worth area stays dry, a few light showers or sprinkles are possible mainly south of Interstate 20, including parts of Johnson, Hill, and Ellis counties. Rain amounts are expected to remain minimal due to very dry air near the surface.
Conditions turn more impactful Wednesday as a cold front pushes through North Texas during the day. North winds will increase behind the front, creating breezy conditions by late morning and afternoon. Highs in Fort Worth are expected to top out near the lower 60s early before sliding into the upper 50s, with noticeably lower humidity by evening.
Travel impacts are expected to be limited, but drivers of high-profile vehicles should remain alert for gusty crosswinds along Interstate 35W and Interstate 30. The combination of dry air and wind may also elevate grass fire concerns later Wednesday and into Thursday, especially west of Fort Worth and across rural areas.
Quiet weather returns late week, with sunshine and seasonable temperatures Thursday and Friday. Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items ahead of Wednesday’s winds and remain cautious with outdoor burning as drier conditions settle in.
No widespread weather advisories are in effect at this time, but officials note conditions could change quickly with the front. Additional statements may be issued as North Texas moves through midweek.
