FORT WORTH, Texas — Residents across Fort Worth and the Dallas-Fort Worth region woke up to a cold start Monday, with temperatures dropping into the 20s across much of North Texas, according to the National Weather Service.

Early morning readings around 5:30 a.m. showed temperatures near 28 degrees at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, with nearby communities reporting similar conditions. Sherman checked in at 27 degrees, Paris at 25, and Graham dipped to around 20 degrees, underscoring the widespread nature of the cold air across the region.

Forecasters said the chilly start is typical of the lingering cold air mass over North Texas, but conditions are expected to gradually change through the day. Clouds are moving in from the west and will increase through the morning, leading to partly to mostly cloudy skies by the afternoon.

Despite the cold start, no precipitation is expected Monday, and winds are forecast to remain relatively light. Still, officials urged residents to dress in layers during the morning commute, bring pets indoors, and take precautions against the cold, especially during the early hours.

“Temperatures have dropped into the 20s for most areas this morning,” the National Weather Service said in a statement, noting that cloud cover will play a key role in moderating temperatures later in the day.

Daytime highs are expected to recover modestly, though conditions will remain cool compared to seasonal averages. The increasing cloud cover may limit how much warming occurs, keeping afternoon temperatures on the cooler side across the Fort Worth area.

The cold start marks another reminder of winter’s presence in North Texas, even as longer-term forecasts point to gradual moderation later in the week. Until then, residents are encouraged to stay warm, allow extra time for morning travel, and remain attentive to updated forecasts as conditions evolve.
