Fort Wayne, Indiana – Northern Indiana will enter a dangerous stretch of heat beginning Sunday, with heat index values expected to climb above 100°F and remain elevated through Tuesday. Monday could bring the most intense conditions, with several counties forecast to hit heat indices near 105°F.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, high temperatures will rise into the upper 80s to low 90s by Sunday, with dew points in the 70s combining to produce oppressive humidity. Heat index values — a measure of how hot it feels — are projected to peak Monday afternoon, with Elkhart, Logansport, Marion, and South Bend among the hottest zones.

Fort Wayne may see a heat index of 104°F Monday, while Goshen and Warsaw could approach 102°F. Local emergency officials recommend staying indoors during peak heat hours, hydrating regularly, and checking on vulnerable populations.

Cities along the Indiana-Michigan border, including Hillsdale, Three Rivers, and Benton Harbor, will also face hazardous conditions. Monday’s spike could lead to heat-related illness, particularly for those without air conditioning or working outdoors.

This heat wave follows a mild July stretch, marking the region’s most intense heat so far this summer. Heat advisories are likely, with the National Weather Service expected to issue formal alerts over the weekend.
