SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Thunderstorms could interrupt evening plans across northern Indiana, with the National Weather Service warning of locally gusty winds and small hail possible west of I-69 through tonight. Rain chances will remain elevated into Tuesday, keeping conditions unsettled and slightly cooler than average.
According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, scattered showers and storms are most likely between 4 and 9 p.m. Monday, with another round of heavier rainfall possible late Monday night into Tuesday morning. While widespread severe weather is not expected, brief hail and gusty winds could create hazards for drivers and outdoor activities.
Communities including Fort Wayne, South Bend, and Elkhart should prepare for wet commutes and occasional downpours, especially along the I-80/90 corridor. Rainfall totals may vary widely, with some locations picking up as much as a half-inch.
Temperatures will stay in the low 70s to mid-70s through Tuesday, before drier conditions gradually return midweek. Residents are advised to keep umbrellas handy and check for localized ponding on roads during heavier showers.
