FORT WAYNE, Ind. – After a stretch of near-perfect fall weather, northeast Indiana is bracing for a shift early next week as storms and cooler air move in by Monday night. Highs near 90 degrees this weekend will give way to widespread showers and thunderstorms, with the most active period expected from late Monday through Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, scattered thunderstorms could begin developing Monday afternoon, becoming more widespread overnight as a cold front moves through the region. Some storms may bring brief heavy rainfall and gusty winds, especially along U.S. 24 and I-69 corridors.

By Tuesday, rain chances rise to 70%, with highs dropping into the lower 70s. Drivers should expect slower commutes and possible ponding on rural roads. The system will clear out by Wednesday, ushering in drier, cooler air with sunshine and highs in the mid-60s.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and monitor updates for any thunderstorm watches.
