Fort Wayne, Indiana – Drivers and residents across northern Indiana face a high-impact severe weather window between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. Thursday, when storms could bring damaging winds and isolated tornadoes during peak evening travel.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, the greatest risk will focus along and west of the I-69 corridor, including cities such as Fort Wayne, Warsaw, and Marion. Storms are expected to intensify rapidly Thursday evening after a quieter morning round of rain, which is not expected to be severe.

Wind gusts over 60 mph remain the primary concern, with the potential to down trees and power lines, leading to scattered outages. A few tornadoes cannot be ruled out, particularly in areas west of I-69 where atmospheric conditions will be more favorable for rotation.

Key routes including I-69, I-469, and U.S. 30 could see sudden visibility drops and debris on roadways during the evening commute. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge mobile devices, and identify a safe shelter location ahead of time.

Additional rounds of strong storms may redevelop Friday evening and again Saturday, extending the active weather pattern across the region. Warnings and updates are likely as Thursday’s severe threat approaches.
