Fort Wayne, Ind. – Northern Indiana is set for a sweltering weekend, with temperatures climbing into the upper 80s and low 90s and heat indices reaching as high as 104 degrees. Storm chances will increase Saturday into Sunday, with the most widespread rain and thunder expected late in the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, Saturday brings a marginal risk for isolated severe thunderstorms, though confidence in widespread severe activity remains low. Highs will range from 88 to 93 degrees, but oppressive humidity will push the heat index into the upper 90s and low 100s.

Sunday will bring similar heat, with highs between 85 and 93 degrees and a heat index topping 104 in some locations. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely, especially in the afternoon and evening, which could offer brief relief from the heat but also bring gusty winds and heavy rain.

Residents should limit outdoor activity during peak heat, stay hydrated, and ensure pets have shade and water. The combination of heat and storms could impact outdoor events and travel plans through Sunday night. Additional alerts may be issued if storm threats increase.
