Fort Wayne, Ind. – Hot, muggy weather across northern Indiana could turn dangerous Monday afternoon as strong thunderstorms develop between 2 and 10 p.m., bringing wind gusts up to 60 mph, heavy rain, and possible hail.

According to the US National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, the region faces a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe thunderstorms on June 30, particularly from areas near US 24 southward and along the lake breeze boundary. Confidence in widespread severe activity is low, but isolated strong cells are possible.

Cities including Fort Wayne, South Bend, and Elkhart should prepare for brief but intense downpours, localized wind damage, and minor street flooding. Outdoor plans and travel could be disrupted Monday afternoon, especially during peak commute hours. Motorists are urged to watch for pooling water and downed limbs.

Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items, charge mobile devices, and monitor alerts throughout the day. This system follows a hot Sunday, where heat indices topped 96°F across parts of the region.

Storms are expected to taper off Monday night, but additional alerts may be issued if confidence in severe development increases.
