Fort Wayne, Indiana – Wintry weather is expected to persist across northern Indiana for the next several days, bringing cold temperatures, gusty winds, and periodic chances for snow.
According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana office, strong winds gusting up to 55 mph were expected Monday, followed by continued cold conditions through midweek. Daytime highs on Monday were forecast in the mid-20s to around 30 degrees, with overnight lows dropping into the upper teens and lower 20s.
In Fort Wayne, temperatures remained below freezing throughout the day, while gusty winds created bitter wind chills. South Bend and Elkhart were expected to see similar conditions, with single-digit wind chills lingering into Tuesday morning. Forecasters noted that wind chills would remain in the single digits again Tuesday as cold air stays locked over the region.
Tuesday night into Wednesday brings another chance for snow. The National Weather Service indicated a combination of a passing system and lake-effect snow could impact northern Indiana, particularly closer to Lake Michigan. By Wednesday, highs were expected to range from 19 to 28 degrees, with overnight lows falling into the low to mid-teens.
In Kokomo and Warsaw, temperatures were forecast to remain below freezing through Wednesday, with periodic snow chances and lingering cold wind chills. While snowfall amounts were not specified, officials cautioned that even light snow could create slick travel conditions given cold pavement temperatures.
Residents were urged to dress warmly, limit time outdoors, and remain cautious while traveling. Commuters, students, and outdoor workers may feel the greatest impacts during early morning and evening hours.
The National Weather Service advises continued monitoring of local forecasts as wintry conditions persist across northern Indiana into midweek.
