Fort Wayne, Indiana – A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a single vehicle Tuesday evening, triggering traffic reroutes and a police investigation on West Coliseum Boulevard.

According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, officers and medics were dispatched to West Coliseum Boulevard just west of Goshen Road at approximately 7:25 p.m. after receiving multiple calls about a crash involving a pedestrian. Responders located an adult male suffering from life-threatening injuries.

Emergency treatment was rendered at the scene before the victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The victim’s identity has not been released pending notification of family.

Police said the driver of the SUV involved remained at the scene and is cooperating with officers. Investigators stated speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash at this time.

As a result of the investigation, all eastbound lanes of Coliseum Boulevard west of the Goshen Road intersection were rerouted for several hours Tuesday night. Drivers were advised to seek alternate routes while crews documented the scene.

The Fort Wayne Police Department Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT), assisted by the Air Support Unit (ASU), was deployed to conduct scene measurements and evidence collection. The crash remains under investigation by the FACT team in coordination with the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

Coliseum Boulevard is a heavily traveled corridor for evening commuters and nearby retail and service workers, and disruptions in the area may continue as investigators complete their review.

No additional details have been released, and police have not announced whether charges are expected.
