Fort Wayne, IN – Changing weather conditions this weekend could create travel hazards across northern Indiana as mild air is replaced by colder temperatures early next week.

According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana office, patchy fog early Saturday will give way to a dry but mostly cloudy day, with high temperatures ranging from the upper 30s to near 50 degrees. Conditions remain quiet through Saturday night.

Rain is expected to develop early Sunday morning, with mild temperatures pushing highs into the upper 50s and lower 60s. Forecasters note that isolated thunderstorms are possible Sunday, though severe weather is not anticipated at this time.

A strong cold front will move through the region late Sunday into Monday, bringing a rapid drop in temperatures and gusty winds. As colder air arrives, rain is expected to change over to snow showers Monday, accompanied by windy conditions. High temperatures Monday are forecast to fall into the mid-20s to near 30 degrees, with lows dropping into the upper teens and lower 20s.

The National Weather Service warned that standing water from Sunday’s rain could freeze Sunday night into Monday morning, leading to areas of black ice, especially on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses. Even light snow showers could further reduce visibility during the Monday commute.

Motorists are urged to use caution, slow down, and allow extra stopping distance as conditions change quickly. Travelers should also remain alert for sudden slick spots, particularly during the early morning hours Monday.

Residents are encouraged to monitor forecast updates as timing and impacts become clearer. While snowfall amounts are expected to remain light, the combination of wind, falling temperatures, and freezing surfaces could still create hazardous travel conditions across northern Indiana.
