FORT WAYNE, Indiana – A stretch of unsettled weather will take northern Indiana from a mild, windy Friday into a much colder, wintry start to next week, with lake effect snow possible late Sunday through Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, rain showers will develop overnight and linger into Friday morning before skies partially clear in the afternoon. Winds could gust above 30 mph at times, sending temperatures briefly into the 60s before colder air moves in.

By Saturday night, another system will spread rain back into the region, possibly mixing with snow north of U.S. 6. Showers will turn to snow Sunday as the coldest air of the season arrives, dropping highs into the 30s and lows into the lower 20s. “Lake effect snow showers are expected late Sunday into Monday, with some travel impacts possible,” forecasters said.

The wintry pattern will continue into early next week, with strong northwest winds off Lake Michigan producing occasional flurries and slick morning commutes. Drier but frigid conditions are expected by Tuesday as temperatures remain well below normal.
