FORT WAYNE, Ind. – A stretch of cool, unsettled fall weather will linger across northern Indiana through the Halloween weekend, bringing periodic light rain and brisk northwest winds off Lake Michigan.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, scattered light rain showers will overspread areas east of I-69 overnight and Thursday, with the highest rain chances across Fort Wayne, Bluffton, and Auburn. Winds will turn northwesterly by late Friday, ushering in colder air and setting up lake effect showers near and downwind of Lake Michigan, including LaPorte and St. Joseph counties.

Temperatures will stay steady, with highs in the lower to mid-50s and lows in the 30s to near 40 degrees. Thursday looks to be the breeziest day, with gusts near 25–30 mph, making for a chilly evening commute. Though rainfall totals will remain light, damp roads could affect trick-or-treating conditions for parts of northern Indiana Friday night.

By Saturday, the northwest flow will keep isolated lake effect showers going along U.S. 30, tapering gradually by Sunday. No widespread frost or freeze is expected, but the cool, damp pattern will persist into early next week.

Residents should bundle up for outdoor Halloween events and use caution on slick, leaf-covered roads, especially near the lakeshore where brief downpours are possible.
