Fort Wayne, Ind. – Northern Indiana will see a sharp weather shift tonight as a cold front sweeps through, bringing scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms before much cooler air settles in by Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, showers will increase late this afternoon in the northwest before spreading across the region tonight. Rainfall amounts could approach one inch in localized areas, with thunder possible mainly after 9 p.m. Conditions will turn breezy and sharply cooler once the front passes.

Communities including South Bend, Elkhart, Goshen, and Fort Wayne face the highest chance of storms between 6 p.m. and midnight, with precipitation probabilities exceeding 70% in many cities. Drivers should watch for ponding on roads during heavier downpours.

Thursday will feel dramatically different, with highs only in the mid-60s to near 70 degrees under breezy conditions. A few light showers could linger during the day, but skies will gradually clear into the evening. Residents are advised to keep jackets handy and prepare for a much cooler stretch to end the week.
