Fort Wayne, IN – Northern Indiana is starting the week on a frigid note Monday, but a significant warm-up is expected as the week progresses.

According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana, Monday, December 15, will remain cold and breezy, with high temperatures ranging from 18 to 23 degrees across the Fort Wayne area. Gusty winds may lead to blowing and drifting snow in open and rural locations, even though no significant new snowfall is expected.

Despite sunshine at times, temperatures will struggle to recover Monday afternoon, making it feel colder than the thermometer suggests. Drivers should remain cautious in areas where snow has drifted back onto roadways, especially during the morning hours.

Conditions improve noticeably beginning Tuesday, when highs are forecast to rise into the low to mid 30s. The warming trend continues into Wednesday, with temperatures climbing into the mid to upper 30s, and then accelerating late week.

By Thursday, highs across Fort Wayne and much of northern Indiana are expected to reach between 44 and 50 degrees, marking a dramatic turnaround from early-week cold. A weather system moving through the region could bring widespread rain Thursday, potentially transitioning to light snow late Thursday as colder air returns.

Temperatures are forecast to dip again by Friday, with highs falling back into the mid to upper 20s, signaling a return to more seasonal winter conditions.

Meteorologists say this week’s pattern highlights sharp temperature swings typical of December in the Midwest. Residents are encouraged to dress warmly Monday, secure loose outdoor items due to breezy conditions, and remain weather-aware later in the week as rain and snow chances develop.

While winter isn’t done yet, the upcoming warm stretch should provide a brief break from the cold gripping northern Indiana to start the week.
