FORT WAYNE, Ind. – A line of strong fall thunderstorms is expected to sweep through northern Indiana today, bringing gusty winds, heavy rain, and a few marginally severe cells before clearing skies arrive by Monday. The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana says storms will expand southeast through the afternoon, affecting travel along I-69, U.S. 30, and I-469.

According to the National Weather Service, the main hazards include wind gusts up to 35 mph, brief downpours, and isolated lightning. Drivers should stay alert for ponding on roads and reduced visibility, especially during the afternoon commute. Secure outdoor Halloween decorations, and avoid parking under trees during gusty periods. While no widespread severe weather is expected, the storms could bring brief power flickers and scattered debris.

Conditions will gradually improve Sunday night as the system moves out, setting the stage for a sunny and calmer Monday. Highs will dip to the lower 60s, offering a pleasant start to the new workweek. By Tuesday, clouds return with a small chance for light showers, followed by a cooler, breezy stretch midweek.

According to forecasters, the week’s second half looks mostly sunny and mild—ideal for late-October yard cleanup, pumpkin picking, or fall park visits. A subtle cooldown late week could hint at the region’s first frost potential as Halloween nears, bringing a crisp fall feel to morning commutes and evening events.
