FORT WAYNE, Ind. – A final shot of chilly fall air will sweep across northern Indiana tonight, bringing a risk of frost to inland areas before a warmer weekend sets in. Lows are expected to fall into the upper 30s, with some sheltered valleys dipping into the mid-30s by daybreak Friday. Gardeners are urged to cover sensitive plants and bring potted flowers indoors overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, areas of patchy frost are likely between 3 a.m. and 8 a.m. Friday, especially in rural counties including LaGrange, Noble, DeKalb, and Kosciusko. Skies will stay mostly clear tonight, allowing temperatures to drop quickly after sunset. Winds will remain light, adding to frost development potential in low-lying areas.

By Friday afternoon, milder air returns as highs rebound into the upper 60s to lower 70s. The stretch of mainly dry, partly cloudy weather should hold through the weekend, offering ideal conditions for outdoor events, harvest work, and high school football games. According to the NWS, no significant rain is expected until early next week.

Drivers may encounter some early morning fog and frost on windshields Friday, especially along U.S. 30 and I-69. Residents are reminded to dress in layers for cool mornings and warm afternoons, and to check that outdoor hoses and sprinklers are disconnected before the next freeze.
