Indiana – Gray skies hang low over northern Indiana as cold air settles in, keeping breath visible and pavement stiff. While conditions stay relatively quiet early, winter weather gains momentum fast as snow chances and colder air line up for the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in northern Indiana, additional systems and lake effect snow are expected to impact the region through the weekend. Snow becomes more likely Friday, with scattered snow showers continuing into Saturday. Daytime highs remain stuck in the 20s, with overnight lows dropping into the single digits by Sunday morning.

In Fort Wayne, isolated snow showers develop later today, becoming steadier Friday morning. While accumulations remain light, snow-covered roads are possible during peak travel times. I-69, I-469, and major city routes could turn slick quickly, especially where untreated pavement allows snow to stick.

Saturday stays cold with a chance of additional snow showers. Any melting during brief daylight breaks may refreeze quickly after sunset. By Sunday, colder air deepens its grip. Highs struggle near the upper teens, and wind chills dip well below zero at times, making outdoor exposure dangerous without proper protection.

Drivers should slow down during snow showers, allow extra stopping distance, and watch for black ice on bridges and ramps. Residents are urged to dress in layers, protect pets and pipes, and limit time outdoors during the coldest periods.

Looking ahead, winter remains firmly in control into early next week. Wind chills may approach advisory levels by Monday night into Tuesday, and additional snow chances could follow.
