Fort Wayne, Indiana — Dangerous cold conditions persist across northern Indiana this weekend, with subzero wind chills creating hazardous conditions for outdoor exposure and travel. According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana, wind chill values early Saturday and Sunday mornings are expected to range from -15°F to 0°F, especially during the pre-dawn and early commute hours.

Lake-effect snow that affected parts of the region earlier has shifted west, allowing dry but bitterly cold conditions to dominate through Sunday. Despite limited snowfall this weekend, the extreme cold alone poses risks for motorists along major routes including Interstate 69, I-80, I-90, US-30, and US-20, where vehicle issues and reduced response times can become dangerous in frigid temperatures.

Daytime highs Saturday will only reach the mid-teens to low 20s, with overnight lows dropping below zero in some locations. Sunday remains cold, with highs ranging from 17 to 25 degrees, while wind chills stay well below freezing during the morning hours.

Another cold night is expected Sunday night, but gradual improvement begins early next week. On Monday, temperatures will climb into the upper 20s to near 30 degrees, and a round of light snow is possible across the entire region, with accumulations generally up to 1 inch. While totals remain modest, slick roads could develop during the morning and evening commute periods.

Tuesday brings a 20–30% chance of snow, followed by continued cold Wednesday, when lake-effect snow may redevelop in northwest portions of northern Indiana, particularly near Lake Michigan.

Residents are advised to dress in layers, limit time outdoors during peak cold, and ensure vehicles are winter-ready. Even minor snowfall combined with extreme cold can quickly create hazardous road conditions.

Quiet but cold weather is expected to dominate much of next week, with temperatures remaining below seasonal averages.
