Fort Wayne, IN –

System snow will move across northern Indiana from west to east this evening, bringing 1 to 4 inches of accumulation before transitioning to lake effect snow Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Northern Indiana. The heaviest snowfall is expected along and just south of US-24, where bands may briefly intensify.

Snow onset will vary across the region, beginning between 4–6 PM in western counties such as Valparaiso, Knox, Monticello, and South Bend, then spreading east toward Fort Wayne, Defiance, Bryan, and Lima between 7–10 PM. According to the NWS, snow will exit the region by around 7 AM Tuesday, though lake effect snow will linger near Lake Michigan.

Most communities, including Fort Wayne, Auburn, Huntington, Warsaw, and Bluffton, can expect 2–4 inches, with isolated 1–2 inch totals farther southeast.

On Tuesday, highs will range from 24–31°F, but cold air will strengthen into Wednesday night as an Arctic push drops lows into the 14–19°F range. Daytime highs Wednesday will sit between 30–34°F, with the remainder of the week struggling to climb out of the 20s.

Travel conditions may deteriorate quickly this evening, especially during the first 1–2 hours after snow begins. NWS forecasters warn of reduced visibility, slick roads, and patchy blowing snow late Tuesday into Wednesday as northwest winds increase.

Drivers along I-69, US-30, US-24, and Route 33 should plan for slower travel tonight and into the early Tuesday commute.
