Fort Wayne, IN – A period of light rain—possibly mixing with snow and sleet—will move into northeast Indiana late tonight and continue into Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Northern Indiana. The incoming system is expected to develop after midnight, bringing low to moderate confidence in timing due to lingering dry air, but enough moisture to generate wintry precipitation in several counties across the region.
According to NWS Northern Indiana, temperatures will fall into the 30s this evening as cloud cover increases. Light precipitation is expected to enter from west to east overnight, with timing varying from roughly 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. depending on location. Areas highlighted in the forecast map—including Fort Wayne, Auburn, Angola, Bluffton, and regions north of US-24—may see a brief mix of snow, sleet, and rain early Tuesday. Slight snow accumulation is possible, particularly on elevated or untreated surfaces.
Forecasters note that slick spots may develop before sunrise, especially where temperatures drop to or just below freezing. Counties farther north, including LaGrange, Steuben, DeKalb, and Noble, appear most likely to see wintry impacts.
By late Tuesday morning, temperatures across Allen County and surrounding areas should rise into the mid-30s, allowing all precipitation to transition to rain. Showers may linger into the afternoon before gradually tapering off, especially south of US-24.
Drivers heading out early Tuesday should plan for slower travel and use caution on bridges and overpasses, where isolated ice patches are possible. Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from NWS Northern Indiana as timing and precipitation type may shift.
