Fort Wayne, Ind. – A dramatic shift to warm and wet weather will take hold across northern Indiana beginning Tuesday, with highs nearing 70 degrees and multiple rounds of rain and thunderstorms expected through Saturday.

After cool and dry conditions linger through Monday, temperatures will climb steadily into the 50s Tuesday and surge into the 60s and possibly near 70 by Friday. This warming trend will be accompanied by several waves of rain, with the most widespread activity likely Tuesday through Thursday.

Rain will begin increasing Tuesday afternoon and evening, potentially impacting travel along US-31 near South Bend and I-69 in Fort Wayne. Periods of moderate rainfall may create ponding on roadways and reduced visibility during peak travel times.

Wednesday currently appears to carry the highest potential for thunderstorms as warmer, more humid air spreads northward. Drivers along I-80/90 near Elkhart and I-69 through Fort Wayne should remain alert for downpours and occasional lightning during the afternoon and evening hours.

Additional rain chances continue Thursday and Friday, with highs remaining well above early March averages. Michigan City along I-94 and communities near Lake Michigan could see repeated showers, increasing the risk of standing water in low-lying areas.

While severe weather is not guaranteed at this time, the combination of warm temperatures and multiple systems will create an unsettled pattern. Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and prepare for wet commutes, especially midweek when rainfall coverage and intensity are expected to peak.
