Fort Wayne, Indiana – Wind gusts up to 45 mph will sweep across northern Indiana through 7 p.m. Friday, creating hazardous crosswinds on I-69 and US-30 and affecting high-profile vehicles during the afternoon commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, a Wind Advisory remains in effect from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. EST Friday as southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph shift west late this afternoon. Gusts around 45 mph are expected at times, while temperatures fall from the 40s into the 30s by late day.

High-profile vehicles will be hardest hit.

Drivers along I-80 and the Indiana Toll Road near South Bend and Elkhart may encounter sudden crosswinds, especially on open stretches and overpasses. In Fort Wayne, blowing debris could briefly reduce visibility on I-469 and US-24. Utility providers, including Indiana Michigan Power, are monitoring for isolated power outages if tree limbs snap under repeated gusts.

Colder air settles in tonight with lows between 26 and 32 degrees and west winds still gusting up to 25 mph this evening. Road conditions remain dry today, but falling temperatures could refreeze any standing water after sunset.

What residents should do now: Secure loose outdoor items, use both hands on the wheel, and allow extra space between vehicles on exposed highways.

Looking ahead, snow chances increase late Saturday into Sunday, with 1 to 3 inches possible, especially near Lake Michigan, potentially affecting I-94 and US-12. The Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Friday.
