Fort Wayne, IN – Warmer-than-normal weather will persist across northern Indiana through midweek before a widespread rain system brings breezy conditions and a brief return to wintry weather.
According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana office, temperatures will remain mild for mid-December through Wednesday, with daytime highs ranging from the upper 30s to near 40 degrees. Overnight lows are expected to remain mostly in the upper 20s to low 30s.
Conditions change on Thursday, when a broad weather system moves into the region. Forecasters say widespread rain and breezy conditions are expected during the day, with highs reaching the low to upper 40s. Winds could make it feel cooler at times, particularly during afternoon travel hours.
As colder air moves in Thursday night, rain is expected to transition to light snow, mainly during the late evening and overnight hours. At this time, forecasters do not expect significant snow accumulation, but brief slick spots could develop on untreated roads.
By Friday, temperatures will drop sharply, with daytime highs only reaching the low to upper 20s. Overnight lows could fall into the upper teens to low 20s, marking the coldest temperatures of the week.
Conditions improve heading into the weekend. Highs are expected to rebound into the upper 30s to low 40s on Saturday, followed by low to mid-30s on Sunday, with mostly dry weather anticipated.
The National Weather Service advises residents to monitor forecast updates, especially for Thursday’s rain and wind and the potential for slick roads Thursday night into early Friday.
