Fort Wayne, IN – Northern Indiana is bracing for two rounds of snow to start the week, with the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana forecasting both lake-effect snow tonight and a broader system snow event late Monday into Tuesday.
Light lake-effect snow will continue through tonight, producing 1 to 3 inches mainly north of U.S. 30 and west of I-69. Overnight lows will dip into the teens and 20s, allowing untreated roads to freeze quickly and become slick.
A more widespread snow system is expected to arrive Monday afternoon, moving west to east across the region between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. Forecast maps indicate 1 to 4 inches of accumulation by early Tuesday, with the highest totals possible near South Bend, Goshen, and Fort Wayne.
Snow is expected to taper off early Tuesday, but lake-effect flurries will likely persist through the day, especially downwind of Lake Michigan. Visibility may drop below one mile at times, and temperatures will remain below freezing, keeping roads icy.
The National Weather Service urges drivers to use caution and allow extra travel time during commutes Monday evening and Tuesday morning as road conditions deteriorate.
