Fort Wayne, IN – Bitterly cold conditions will continue across the Fort Wayne area through the workweek, with periodic chances for lake-effect snow and dangerously low wind chills, according to the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service Northern Indiana said Monday will remain blustery, with lake-effect snow diminishing later in the day and high temperatures between 6 and 15 degrees. Wind chills during the morning hours are expected to fall well below zero, creating hazardous conditions for anyone spending extended time outdoors.
On Tuesday, breezy conditions return with snow showers and areas of blowing snow, while highs recover slightly to 17 to 20 degrees. Despite the modest warmup, minimum wind chills are expected to remain below zero, especially overnight and during the early morning.
Conditions remain cold into Wednesday, with highs ranging from 8 to 15 degrees and mostly cloudy skies. Lake-effect snow showers remain possible at times, though accumulations are expected to be light and localized.
The National Weather Service noted that Wind Chill Advisories are in effect this morning along and south of U.S. 30 in Indiana, with dangerously cold wind chills expected again overnight into Tuesday morning. Frostbite and hypothermia can occur quickly if proper precautions are not taken.
Residents are urged to dress in layers, cover exposed skin, and limit time outdoors when possible. Pets should be kept indoors, and precautions should be taken to protect pipes, vehicles, and heating systems from the prolonged cold.
Commuters, students, and early-shift workers should prepare for bitter wind chills at bus stops and parking areas, along with slick spots where snow showers develop.
Additional updates will be issued as the cold pattern continues across northern Indiana.
