Fort Wayne, IN – A series of crashes involving a pickup truck on Lafayette Street Monday afternoon left a woman hospitalized after erratic driving led to multiple collisions.

According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, officers responded shortly after 12:30 p.m. Monday to reports of a dark-colored pickup truck involved in multiple related crashes near Lafayette Street and East Woodland Avenue. Investigators said the incident began south of Paulding Road when the northbound truck allegedly veered off the east side of the roadway, striking a fence and several trees before continuing north.

Police said a witness reported the pickup was unable to maintain a straight path. The vehicle then allegedly rear-ended another car near McKinnie Avenue and Lafayette Street. The driver of the struck vehicle was not injured, and damage was described as minor.

Authorities said the pickup continued northbound, still allegedly driving erratically. As it approached Woodland Avenue, the truck veered off the west side of the roadway and collided with a tree.

Officers arriving at the scene found an adult female driver unresponsive inside the vehicle. Fort Wayne Fire Department crews and Three Rivers Ambulance Authority (TRAA) medics provided immediate medical care. Officials said the woman did not appear to have crash-related injuries that would explain her condition. She was initially listed in serious to critical condition but was later stabilized at a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said investigators are working to determine whether a medical episode, drugs, and/or alcohol allegedly contributed to the ุณู„ุณู„ุฉ of crashes. Speed does not appear to have been a factor.

The investigation remains ongoing.
