Fort Wayne, IN – Police in Fort Wayne have arrested a 34-year-old suspect following a fatal shooting Tuesday evening on the city’s east side, according to a media release from the Fort Wayne Police Department.

Officers were dispatched around 6:20 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, to the 400 block of East Washington Boulevard after reports of gunfire. When they arrived, police found an adult male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Medics rushed the man to a local trauma center, but officials said he later died from his injuries.

The Fort Wayne Homicide Unit launched an investigation, and detectives quickly identified Domonique Drew, 34, as the suspected shooter. Authorities located Drew later that evening, taking him into custody during a traffic stop at South Clinton Street and East Jefferson Boulevard around 10:15 p.m.

Police said Drew was transported to the Allen County Jail, where he is being held on a preliminary charge of murder.

As of early Wednesday morning, investigators had not released additional details about what led up to the shooting or whether the victim and suspect knew each other. The victim’s identity will be released once family members are notified.

This marks one of several homicide investigations currently under review by Fort Wayne Police as the department continues to address violent crime in the city.
