Fort Wayne, Ind. – Northern Indiana faces a heightened risk for strong storms late Tuesday afternoon through early Wednesday, bringing threats of heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and localized flooding. The National Weather Service has placed the region under a Marginal Risk for severe weather, with the heaviest activity expected after 3 p.m. and lasting into the overnight hours.
According to the NWS Northern Indiana, storms will impact cities from South Bend to Fort Wayne, with rainfall rates high enough to cause ponding on roads and potential flash flooding in low-lying areas. Communities along and south of the US 24 corridor may see lingering showers into Wednesday morning.
Drivers should watch for water-covered roads and avoid flooded intersections. Outdoor evening events may be disrupted by lightning and sudden downpours. Temperatures will remain warm and muggy, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s Tuesday before dipping slightly Wednesday.
Relief from the oppressive humidity arrives Thursday, with sunny skies and highs in the low 80s. However, heat and moisture will quickly return by the weekend. Additional weather alerts are possible if storms redevelop Tuesday night.
