Fort Myers, FL – A Fort Myers man wanted for allegedly shooting two people has been arrested in Mississippi after fleeing Florida, authorities said.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a double shooting at the Cypress West Apartments on March 15. Officers found two victims suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. They were transported to a hospital, where they remain in stable condition.
Detectives identified the suspected shooter as 35-year-old Roger De Le Cruz, who fled the scene before deputies arrived.
On March 18, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office located and arrested De Le Cruz on Interstate 10 near Gulfport, Mississippi. He now faces two counts of attempted second-degree murder and has an ICE hold.
Sheriff Carmine Marceno stated that his office is working with state attorneys to extradite De Le Cruz back to Florida, where he will face charges.
Authorities thanked the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in the arrest. The investigation is ongoing.
