Miami, Fla. – Storms are expected to rattle much of South Florida this evening, bringing gusty winds, heavy downpours, and dangerous lightning that could disrupt travel and outdoor plans.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, scattered to numerous thunderstorms will linger through Sunday night across Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, and Naples. Forecasters warned that some storms could produce wind gusts up to 60 mph, making driving hazardous and potentially downing small tree limbs.
Rain chances sit near 60% from Miami to West Palm Beach, while Naples faces the highest risk with a 70% chance of storms and evening temperatures near 80 degrees. Flooding on low-lying roads remains possible during periods of heavy rain, especially along coastal communities.
Residents are urged to stay indoors when thunder is heard, avoid flooded streets, and secure loose outdoor items ahead of gusty winds. Lightning strikes could also disrupt evening activities, particularly at beaches and parks.
Storm activity should diminish late tonight, but more showers and thunderstorms remain possible through early in the week.
